Today we are happy to introduce the new version of Mixero, 0.57.
For several months we’ve been busy working not only on
Mixero, but other exciting projects that are soon to be released. So you may probably find the changes not so significant.
Anyway, a lot of work has been done. So, what’s new?

OAuth support

We implemented OAuth authentication with Twitter. Your username and password are no longer saved on your computer, only on twitter.com. The other good thing is that there are 350 API calls are available to OAuth-empowered clients instead of 150 before.

Memory optimizations

We have significantly optimized Mixero source code so that it is now more stable, especially under Adobe AIR 2 (http://get.adobe.com/air/).
Under AIR 2 Mixero uses much less memory, up to 1.5-2 times less than before. In our tests Mixero with 1-2 accounts active with 10k followers used only 80-100Mb!

Improved Avatars mode

We’ve done a lot of work on improving one of the most interesting features of Mixero – the Avatars mode. Many users
asked for more features in this mode. Here’s what we’ve added:

• ability to view more than one message at a time
• ability to mark tweets as read fom the Avatars mode window
• replies, DMs, retweets can now be sent directly from Avatars mode

Now you are able to get full power of Mixero without leaving the Avatars mode, which drastically improves efficiency. We’ve created a small screencast with the new features of the Avatars mode:

Tabbed interface and new theme for Mac lovers

We added the tabs to the interface to make some important parts of Mixero accessible faster than before. The tabs are fully customizable in the Options. It is possible to show tabs with text or icon only, choose what tabs to show or remove them and don’t use tabs altogether if you hate them. All the parts accessible with the tabs are also accessible with menus, as always.

Followed Twitter Lists

Mixero has supported Twitter lists for a long time, but with one notable exception — the list built by other people and followed by you on twitter had not been supported. Until now.
You’ll see the tab with all your followed lists in the right pane. Every list is presented by a list icon (you can change it in edit dialog) and a small avatar of the user who created this list. You can add these lists to the ActiveList like all other Mixero’s stuff.

In this version we implemented another one of the most requested features — user control of the font size used in the stream messages and input fields.

Mutually following icon

One of most requested features. As we know Mixero is the first Twitter client that has it. You’ll see small icon with man&star in each tweet made by user that you follow and that follows you back.
The same icon is drawn in each contact in the right panel with whom you have “Mutually following”

This version officially introduces the Japanese translation. Waiting for feedback from our Japanese friends

Twitter trends

The twitter trends which were at the Channels tab before are now in a separate tab and show not only the latest, current trends, but also the trends for the last day and week.

Full name in tweets

Now you have the choice to see not only twitter usernames of people tweeting, but also their full names, if specified. The control is in the Options

As always, we have a lot of small changes and bugs fixed. If you have experienced a bug before, we recommend you to check it with the new version. Chances are the bug was fixed. If not, please tell us about it using our support forum at our GetSatisfaction feedback site.

Web site translations

Mixero site now has the most accessed pages translated to Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Portuguese.

We are happy to annonce the new release of Mixero twitter client. Let us explain most imporant changes in it:

Optimized

• Much faster login process (especially for accounts with a lot of followed users)
• Better memory consumption
• Less CPU usage
• Just faster for most cases

Hashtag autocompletion

Starting from now Mixero will remember all hashtags you used and when you’ll write down # in your tweet Mixero will automatically suggest you to insert hashtag started from letters that you indicate after #. That how it’s look like:

A lot of our users asked us to add ability to set any image from their computer as icon of group or channel in Mixero. We heard this request and added this feature into current release.

Autologin

Autologin also was one of most requested feature in Mixero and it arrived. You can set enable/disable this option on Login screen or in Settings:

User filter

As usual our team try to suggest unique features to our users following our motto “Reducing the noise”. In this release we added one of them – User Filter. On any timeline that combines tweets from different people (friends, group, activelist, channel) you can see this icon . When you push it, small toolbar’ll appear below.

On this toolbar you’ll see small avatars of people tweets from whom are contained in current timeline. Then if you click on any user avatar, you’ll see tweets only from selected user in current timeline.

Click one more time to remove selection. Click on trash icon to remove User Filter toolbar.

Do you need to remember some additional info about your friends on Twitter? It is possible with Mixero now! We added “Your notes” field in Profile tab of any of your followers where you can put any neccessery info to remember about this particular user. This information is visible to you only. Here is how it looks like:

In this release we also added the support for TweetPhoto uploading. We also made “Send a gift” button from our Valentine theme available in other themes, it’s in the tweet “More” menu now.
This release is also fixes а huge number of bugs present in previous releases.

Let us introduce our new project: MicroChats. Its purpose is in creating and participating in moderated chats, while being on Twitter.
All the messages you or other participants post to the chat are posted on Twitter. You may specify precisely who should be seen in this chat, or who should not, you may also filter out unwanted keywords. That means that you can setup and moderate a discussion on Twitter, and stay assured no spam or trolls will distract you. Reducing the noise, you know .

There are two kinds of chats can be created currently:

1. Public chat. This type is for public discussions, everybody on Twitter may participate – even if they don’t know about it . You as the moderator can block certain users, and the messages from them won’t be shown in the chat’s timeline to all the chat followers.
2. Private chat. Only posts from specific users, named speakers, is shown in the timeline. The list of users is set up by the moderator. It’s for discussions among fixed number of participants.

Of course, you may not only be the creator and moderator – you may participate in chats created by others. In case of a private chat you need to be invited to be a speaker, but you can read any chat’s timeline, whenever it is public or private – just follow it.

Remember, however, that in order to post to a chat you must have a public account on Twitter so it can be searchable by Twitter search.

In the latest Mixero version we began integrating chats to the client. There’s a new tab named Chats in the right panel. The lists of chats created and followed by you is there. You work with chats just like you do with channels – they can be added to Active list and the timeline is shown in the left panel. Chats are markedin Active list with the icon

We almost ready to release themes support in Mixero. It means that we will create a lot of different themes for Mixero soon and give you ability to switch between them in one click. Moreover, It will be possible for anyone to create a theme and publish it.
We know that a lot of Mixero users wanted to have dark theme for Mixero. And we decided to give you ability to use your favorite software with dark theme before we released the whole theme support.
So if you prefer to work with Mixero Black then download this version.
If you’ll not like black theme you will be able switch back anytime just by downloading laеtest release from http://www.mixero.com.

New Retweet Style

The new Twitter’s retweet function is fully integrated into Mixero. If you prefer the old-style retweets or want to edit the retweeted text, you can always choose to do so. The first time you press retweet button, the retweet mode choice dialog appears. Press “Retweet” for new style, “Edit first” for old style retweet. You may check the box to remember your choice. In that case Mixero won’t ask you to decide what style to use again.

This parameter is also can be configured in Options/General/Retweet style.

Geolocation support

Mixero now knows how to deal with geotagging information in tweets. Geotagged tweets are marked in timeline and look like this:

If the geo link is pressed, you’ll see the tweet author’s avatar on the map.

Mixero goes even further on geotagging! We present to you an unique feature among desktop Twitter clients — you can geotag your tweets right from your desktop (the geotagging must be enabled on Twitter for this to work, so look for “Enable geotagging” checkbox in Twitter Settings).

When you compose your tweet, press the icon. The map window will be opened. Click your location on the map, hit Ok, and the location will be added to the tweet.

You can remember several locations and give them convenient names for future use. Check the “I’m at” box near the tweet input field and select the location from the list. The locations are stored only locally and not synchronized between Mixero instances for privacy reasons.

You can search the map for quick jump to the place you want. Use the button in the right upper corner of the map.

Spam reporting and User blocking

Each tweet menu now has buttons for spam reporting & user blocking. Use them with care.

At last. We are happy to tell you that Mixero is now in open beta. That means nobody needs an invitation code. Everyone can use it. And it’s still free!

Apart from being ivitation free, the new version has many new features. The most significant are Facebook integration and Twitter lists support. It also fixes a lot of bugs since the previous version, so we strongly sugest to upgrade.

Facebook integration

Press “Add Facebook” on the login screen to turn on Facebook account. The authentication data will be asked by Facebook during Mixero login process. The Facebook account in Mixero works and feels pretty much the same as a Twitter account. Some functions, however, are currently not available or not yet activated due to limitations or restrictions of Facebook API.

Twitter lists

At the first login to each of Twitter accounts Mixero will suggest you to synchronize your groups (if you have some) with Twitter lists. If you choose to do so, all your Mixero groups will be exported to Twitter as lists. Mixero will also unconditionally load all the Twitter lists that have no corresponding Mixero groups.

As You may know, Twitter has a limit — no more than 20 lists can exist at the same time. Mixero don’t have such limits. Mixero will continue to support an arbitrary number of groups. They can be synchronized with Twitter lists, within the limits set by Twitter. You may always choose which of them are synchronized with Twitter from the Options/Synchronization panel in Mixero.

Custom Twitter API URL support

There were many request for such a feature. Now It’s possible to set your own server/proxy URL for talking to Twitter API. The setting is in the Options/Twitter API screen:

• Fixed adding users to contacts when they are already followed on Twitter
• External windows can be [almost] of any size now.
• Worked around the old nasty strange bug when popup windows opened not over, but under the main window. That was the cause of “Can’t open Update/DM/Options window”-like bugs
• Fixed default group icon not assigned.
• Many performance-related and other fixes.

Facebook integration — really soon!

It has finally happened! Tonight, Apple review team has approved Mixero, the
most remarkable Twitter client for the iPhone.

It is now live in the App Store and it’s FREE! Now, all the cutting edge features of Mixero
desktop are available on your iPhone. Needless to say that
our approach is a bit different than all other Twitter clients out there,
and is a real breakthrough on a mobile device that has limitations in screen space
and connectivity. The really great thing is that now everything in your account
is synchronized across not only multiple PC and Mac machines, but it spreads
on to your handy mobile device too! And this includes the synced active list, groups,
contexts, channels, filters, it’s just amazing!

Mixero for iPhone is open for public! This means no invitation is required.
Incredible! Once you sign in with Mixero on the iPhone, you will be able to access
this account with Mixero on desktop, even if you don’t have an invitation!
