Plenty of news from HootSuite recently so you know the Owls at the HQ aren’t slowing down for the summer. Today, HootSuite announces a global crowd-sourced project to translate and localize HootSuite for users around the world. Plus, we’re sharing a sneak peek of the coveted Blackberry app.
Crowd-Sourced Translation
Do you speak geek in multiple languages? Great! We want you to be a star in your community by joining the HootSuite translation project.
So far, HootSuite is localized in English and Japanese, but with updates coming in from all around the world (including far-flung locales like Palau and the Faroe Islands), we want to make life a wee bit Hoot-ier for everyone.
To accomplish this mission, we need help from a few wise Owls to play the translate game:
We’re starting with a few popular tongues but welcome your suggestions about which language we should add next. We’re also curious to see which language will be first to go live? Portuguese and Dutch are safe bets but maybe Russian or Chinese will storm to the top of the leader board. Whichever is the winner, expect to see a custom Owly design to celebrate.
Fascinated by linguistic nuance? Apply to be a language translation coordinator which means you’ll give the thumbs-up on the submitted translation candidates before pushing live to the applause of thousands.
Watching the Hoots
Some fans want to know *everything* about HootSuite. If you seek knowledge, consider following @HootWatch– a back-channel account which shares a firehose of HootSuite media mentions and fan reactions.

Plug-ins, Extensions and Apps
While the web version is the most-used variation of HootSuite’s social media dashboard, you can also run HootSuite as a standalone app, add browser extensions, or utilize the Hootlet to enhance your experience.
The Hootlet is the social media aficionado’s secret weapon. Add this bookmarklet to quickly create an update from any web page. A single click pops open a messages already pre-populated with a short link and the page’s <title> tag. You can then edit, schedule or send like any other message. Also available as a browser extension for Firefox and Chrome.

Something amiss in your streams? Well, you’re not the only one.
Twitter’s API is currently experiencing a critical issue that is causing problems in some third-party clients, including HootSuite.
As such, you may notice that your Home or Mention streams on HootSuite.com are not updating correctly. This is a symptom of the issue with Twitter’s API.
Geek note: API stands for Application Programming Interface which allows sites like Twitter/Facebook/Linkedin to share data with HootSuite.
HootSuite for iPhone and HootSuite for Android are also affected by this bug. Some users are experiencing crashes when viewing certain streams. Again, this is due to a problem with Twitter’s API.
Twitter is aware of the issue and are working on resolving this as soon as possible. Meanwhile at HootSuite HQ, we thank you for your patience.
Buzzom Premium gives you the ability to schedule your messages which can be posted at any desired time to your social networks. All you need to do is specify the date and time of the post and the system will update it for you in Twitter, Facebook, Facebook pages, LinkedIn and MySpace. Scheduling messages one by one can be tiresome at times and if you like to schedule a lot of messages at once, you’d rather go for Bulk Upload.
Below are the steps for scheduling messages in bulk as CSV or Excel.
Step 1: Click on ‘Upload Excel’.
Step 2: Click on ‘Download CSV’ or ‘Download Excel’.
Step 3: Put your Twitter ID in the ‘Username’ column, message in the ‘Message Column. Use Y and N for the next four columns based on whether you want them to be scheduled for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace respectively. If you have mentioned Y for Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace, Please make sure that you have associated these network accounts to your main Twitter account. If no, please go to ‘Account Management’ and associate them first.
Step 4: If you want the messages to repeat, please type the following options:
RD: for Repeat Daily
RW: for Repeat Weekly
RBW: for Repeat BiWeekly
RM: for Repeat Monthly.
Step 5: Type the correct date and time in ‘Schedule on’ column. Make sure you type a data and time which has not passed already.
Step 6: Please save this file in your system and click on ‘Choose File’ in the box that’s already open in your browser. Click on ‘Ok’
Step 7: Go to ‘Queued Status’ tab and check if the messages have been scheduled.
How many of you know more than just 2/3 language? Don’t you think it is a problem when you are presented with a text in another language. What if the text contained a very important message?
We have observed that in Twitter, people tend to be comfortable with their own language and tend to tweet on their own language. Similar with other networking sites. Specially in Twitter, we have contacts from over the world hence understanding their language is a pain. You would have to use third party application to translate and re-translate the updates.
Well, you don’t have to have such headache anymore. Buzzom gives you an easily accessible translate button which will let you translate the Tweets/Updates into any other language.
Along every updates, you can view the Translate button, simple click on it and choose your language of interest. You are given 53 different language options. Just click on it and the new translated language will appear.
In addition to that, you can even translate your replies and update. This will make sure that your respondent will understand your replies.
We hope that this new feature will help user be more interactive with their contacts and help build good relationships.
If you all have any suggestions or queries, please comment on the post below or simply send you message at buzzom@in-rev.com.
As promised, we have put together some additional tips for using bit.ly with a number of popular cut-and-paste sharing buttons and widgets including the Twitter Tweet Button.
Please visit our guide to Third-Party Tools For Publishers. This page includes working examples and code snippets for the most popular sharing tools.
For smaller publishers who cannot cache links on their backend, we are now providing a simple JavaScript wrapper for sharing bit.ly links using the Twitter Tweet Button:
Be sure to use your bit.ly login and API Key (which you can always find at http://www.bit.ly/a/your_api_key) with the code above.
This implementation simply shortens the page URL and then displays the Twitter Tweet Button in its standard fashion. All Tweet Button functionality is maintained. And, since our JavaScript wrapper uses your bit.ly login and API Key, it will automatically return custom bit.ly short domains for Pro and Enterprise users.
If you have any questions about using bit.ly with this or any other publishing tools or platforms - or have your own tips or tricks for using bit.ly with the sharing tools of your choice - do not hesitate to contact support@bit.ly!

It also makes sharing and assigning replies between account administrators incredibly easy and traceable. Very rarely do tweets from our community go unnoticed. We can also share access to upcoming tweets and be on the same page with the events, stories and content that we’re promoting for a given week.
