Hiding Users in Twitter How and Why? - Story From: Go Social

You must agree with me when I say, Twitter is a mess. We keep following and unfollowing people in Twitter in a hope of finding interesting contents and good networking. But most of the time, we get annoyed by people’s tweet especially when it is about some thing we do not care about.

Further there are many applications that people use in Twitter which keep sending automated updates, like from twitter games and so on. Unlike in Facebook, where you can simply hide users/applications temporarily, there is no way of doing so in twitter. Even the most popular Twitter client applications do not allow such actions in Twitter.

Hence, in Buzzom we have tried to give complete control to user on what he/she wants to see and read. This not only reduces spam in you twitter stream, but it also allows users to add lot of values to their network.

In buzzom, users are allowed to hide any users, applications and has tags.

Hide Action Button

Every tweet has an action button called ‘Hide’ attached to it. When you click on the button, the system reads your related tweets and get details of user, application and has-tags. Now you can easily hide them and never get annoyed by them.

In order to remove users and applications from your hide list. Simply click on the Setting button and unhide your preferences.

How to generate leads in Twitter? - Story From: Go Social

This is one of the most difficult question which you will always face in any social media events. The reason is that it simply doesn’t have any answers. Any social media expert will tell you that thinking of leads at the very beginning of your social media strategy is a false move. Further, any experts will immediately reply to such query with a clichés comment – “It depends upon your service or product.”

And it is very true that leads in Twitter depends upon the kinds of service and product that you are selling. Just to make my point of generating leads in Twitter, I would like to make some comparison with Twitter and the real life situation.

Twitter is very similar to business or event meet where there are many people whom you are seeing for the first time. The only way you can be visible in such event is if you have something to say or share with the people around you. If you have nothing than you are a listener and will not be adding any value to the meet. But do not worry if you have nothing to say, listening is a good way to learn about the trends and this will be helpful for your future meet.

Now let’s talk about the leads, it is never guaranteed that all the people in a business or event meet will turn out to be your clients or partners. It entirely depends upon the interest of the group. If you are in a wrong group than your chances of finding any leads is null. But if you are lucky than you could find some good and helpful connections. Luck is a better part of Twitter.

It’s very similar in Twitter. You need to find the community that you are targeting in Twitter. This is the step 1 for every social media marketers – to find the community. Unlike in facebook and other forums, Twitter communities are scattered and overlapped. There is no clear demarcation between communities. This is what makes Twitter more interesting. You need to work out every day to figure out communities and engage with them to be noticed. For example, you could create lists and groups in Twitter to manage your twitter followers.

Once, you have found your community, it is all back to the basic of marketing. You need to reach out to everyone in the network and create your own brand. Now creating a brand in Twitter is a whole new chapter. But in a nutshell, you need to create certain identity for yourselves. Meanwhile, you also need to be talking about your services and products and sharing contents related to your brand. This way, you are a part of community. In addition you get chance to talk about your products. The whole idea of Twitter is to get your community or tribe talk about your services or products which will in effect influence potential clients to try your products/services.

But where is the lead?

Yes, you may ask how can we push leads in Twitter? Just understand that if you push yourselves to hard on twitter, you will be annoying your community and thereby get yourself rejected. Getting rejected in Twitter is one of the easiest thing in the planet. So, just be social.

There is a salesman approach that you can take on Twitter but use it very sparsely. The key idea is to approach (directly/indirectly) everyone in your network and ask him/her to use your products/services. Due to Twitter terms and conditions, remember that you cannot spam the network hence this approach requires to be used intelligently.
Next thing that you can do is learn from the successful brands in Twitter. But always remember that doing the stuff their way is not going to be very helpful. Take for instance, brands like Dell or Pepsi. There is no way that their strategy is going to work for you simply because they were a successful brand before coming to Twitter. Hence all the communities build around their profile already existed offline. But for you as an entrepreneur, you need to create the community hence you ...

All those wonderful innovations in Twitter is the key reasons for it’s success. Actions such as reply and ReTweet are some of the famous and helpful ones. But when Twitter launched its  own feature to promote content and called it RT, people were quite disappointed. The main reason behind this was the inflexibility of the RT button which prevented users from adding any content on the message. As a result, people still do RT the old way.

It was a tough decision for Buzzom make to whether add the old RT style feature or not. But today, I am about to announce you the launch of two new features on Buzzom. Shout, DM and RT.

DM (Direct Messages)

Sending direct message to your friends is always a hassle in Twitter. But now through Buzzom, you can send DM to your friend from the stream itself.

dm-message

Two ways to RT in Buzzom

There are two ways of RT in Buzzom, one is simple ‘ReTweet’ button and the next one is the ‘Shout’ button. Shout button is the old version of ReTweet where you can edit the content before updating them.

The importance of being tracked by Social Media Crawlers - Story From: Go Social

First of all, do you know what I mean by Social Media Crawlers? If you have not noticed them yet, then they are the individual online social profiles who are left in the Internet to crawl for contents and curate them. But why? Apparently, there are many profiles in Twitter which has specific goals. They are searching or crawling for specific types of content related to specific subject matter. For example, one profile could be collecting anything being said about Apple or iPad, the other could be for Google, Microsoft, Design, programmer etc.

These profiles does a great job of collecting information in the Twitter stream and channelizing them. As a result, they exist in form of different channels in the Twitter. Because Twitter, in itself doesn’t do it, there are hundreds of account doing the job. Further, there are thousands of people following these profiles to get channelized stream of information. So, suppose you are looking for updates on Tech, you will certainly find a profile for that.

Source : http://www.maurilioamorim.com/

Source : http://www.maurilioamorim.com/

Unlike, in old times where your content was only crawled and indexed by search engines and distributed to users. Today, we have thousands of social media crawlers listening to your conversation and distributing them through their channels. This has given rise a different eco-system in the Internet and an important one.

There millions of data being produced every second and it takes hell lot of time to go through all of them. But these crawlers or bots do a great job of aggregating the content for you. It is important to get indexed by search engines, for better visibility. In a similar way, its important to be indexed by as many social crawlers as possible for visibility in the social media space. It is similar to being discovered by a real people. When a person finds an interesting content, they share. These profiles do the same thing.

Hence, if you are targeting for specific category in the social media space, it is time you start knowing about these social media crawlers and their conditions for being tracked. They can give your content a better visibility.

Social Media Day Update ~ Celebrate with HootSuite Tune-ups - Story From: HootSuite blog - Social Media Dashboard

Day in the Life of Owly HootSuiteJune 30th is Social Media Day — some cities have even made an official proclamation — and the folks at Mashable are hosting a barrage of worldwide events to celebrate and educate about the ways social web tools have revolutionized the way we share, communicate and engage with companies, government and friends.

Instead of planning a parade, HootSuite is celebrating with a release with a handful of fixes, tools to make your social media day more socially pleasing.

Tune-ups

In response to all the feedback and enthusiasm to last week’s HootSuite 5 release, we’ve made a few of the new tools a wee bit better — plus thwarted a few anomalies for a better experience.

Facebook Walls and Status: Facebook updates without links will post to both your Facebook Status and Wall, while messages with linked media will post only to your Facebook Wall along with thumbnail (help)

ReTweet Choice: Choosing default ReTweet style is a bit handier now with a pop-up window allowing you to choose whether you prefer “Old Skool” or “Twitter native” style re-broadcasts (help)

Quicker Scheduling: We’ve removed a mouse click from message scheduling — now simply choose the date on the calendar and click the button to queue your message to go anytime (help)

Security Migration

With many networks and services manageable from within HootSuite, information security is of top importance. With this in mind, next time you login to HootSuite, you’ll be migrated to OAuth security which is:

“An open protocol to allow secure API authorization in a simple and standard method from desktop and web applications.”

The process will be largely invisible to you and will make connecting to additional services easier — as well as keeping login information more secure.

Further, this move keeps us in step with Twitter’s evolving security protocols which are changing to OAuth exclusively in the coming days. There should be no action required and your part but we wanted you to know what’s up.

Coming Next

So we’ve knocked the top few most requested features in the Feedback Channel (including Native RTs and Facebook Media previews) and now are working on a few more stellar tools for your arsenal.

Here’s what on tap in the coming weeks:

Day in the Life of Owly HootSuite

HootSuite Blackberry — We know you can’t wait and it’s getting close — we’re making it great to be worthy of the Owl and Blackberry’s passionate users

Short Owly Pro URLs — HootSuite’s custom URL shortening service is in secret private beta and working great! Get on the list for your chance to get shorter

HootSuite iPad — Those who bought ‘em, love ‘em and we’re making an all-new tool for Apple’s popular tablet rather than a hacked iPhone or web app

HootSuite iPhone — A batch of new features will make users of the magically translating, updating, statistics-gathering mobile genius machine even happier

Fixes

Life in the browser can get tricky with so many different versions and varieties. As such, a number of anomalies popped up which are now hammered down for better performance (BTW, check out this post about which browsers work best with HootSuite).

These refinements include:

  • Search result columns in IE 7 & 8 are no longer mixed up
  • Deleted DMs are now completely deleted
  • Klout influence scores are now displayed in bios

Help

Some some users have reported veeerrrryyy slow performance — we continuing to monitor these reports and request you first do a hard refresh (CTRL+F5) and then try a different browser for trouble shooting. Still something amiss? Please submit a ticket at the Help Desk after searching for an answer to your conundrum.

We monitor all the mentions of HootSuite on Twitter and tend to the HootSuite Facebook page with great pleasure. However, the best place to go for help is the Help Desk. There are hundreds of articles to both assist you and apprise you of known issues. Still haven’t found what you are looking for? Submit a ticket if there is something we missed.

Feature requests are an important part of our community and tool evolution — we love hearing them but request that you share with others by posting at Feedback Channel. ...

How to find targetted audience in Twitter? - Story From: Go Social

Posted by TweetExpert | Posted in Buzzom, Twitter Tools | Posted on 30-06-2010

This might be one of the toughest things to do in Twitter. As Twitter is all about communities, everyone is searching for targeted followers. Most people start by searching for people through tweets and bio. But here I am going to give a different way of finding communities. First let me list out some of the known ways:

Source : ning.com

1. Searching tweeple through Tweets.

2. Searching tweeple through bio and location.

3. Going to long lists of directories of Twitter-List and finding relevant groups.

What else can you do beside this? Well, there is one very efficient way to find communities. It needs a little bit of researching. You first find the top influencers on the relevant subject matters. For example, if its social media marketing is your target than names like Chris Brogan is the right choice, SEO experts then Avinash Kaushik. the goal is to find crowd around the brand associated with your service or product.

Why are these people important?

Source :itbloke.net

The fact that they are the experts in their related field, and that they have high influence over the crowd makes it very relevant. They have a genuine crowd of people relating to those field. So identifying key epic points of crowd in important.

What do you do now?

The best way to get get involved in the community is first to listen them and then only engage. You surely don’t want to be the odd man out in the community.

Hence, the best way is to start following them individually or categories them in a list and follow the list. Once you are inside the community, you can slowly start engaging and helping each other out. That is the only way it works in community and its no different in Twitter.

I would say that in every field there is a epic center of influencers. Find them and track their followers. It takes time but its the one of the easiest and best way to proceed.

Now if you want to reduce a little bit of hard work, you can always use the Cross Follow Options of Buzzom. Its on the left hand side bar, under TwitIn. You can type the id of influences and find their followers and followings easily. The difference with this with respect to going to their following and followers list in Twitter Page is the easy follow button and one click profile detail view which will save lots of your time.

Partnerships and Politics ~ News Roundup - Story From: HootSuite blog - Social Media Dashboard

This time around, the news round-up finds some new developments in business, partnerships and politics with dispatches from California to the Kremlin (well Washington DC anyhow).

As usual, catch all the HootSuite news via the social bookmark channel and/or follow @hootwatch for the firehose feed.

Aria Systems – HootSuite Selects Aria Systems to Monetize Twitter and Other Social Media

The folks over at Aria Systems issued a press release via wire and blogpost today talking about impending partnership plans with HootSuite.

HootSuite recognized an opportunity to develop recurring revenue streams for premium features and services that provide additional value on top of HootSuite’s core free client. HootSuite needed a revenue automation platform that supported a “freemium” business model, provided secure payment card handling and immediate service activation for paying customers, as well as automation for downstream billing and collections processes.

Given HootSuite’s historical agility and rapid evolution, the company also recognized that they needed a “future-proof” monetization platform that could enable their current model while providing complete flexibility for the future. Finally, the system had to integrate easily with HootSuite’s backoffice accounting systems. HootSuite chose Aria after reviewing several SaaS billing alternatives.

Great Aria! We look forward to seeing what we can come up with together with the SaaS.

The Atlantic Wire – Twitter Brings White House, Kremlin Together

You probably caught the news of the Russian President’s foray to Silicon Valley to visit entrepreneurs and execs from Google, Apple, and Twitter who helped him set up his own account. Of course, in true diplomatic fashion, the White House replied to the Kremlin’s translated tweet and chose (the Canadian made) HootSuite to deliver the tidings.

On Wednesday, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev toured the headquarters of Twitter. Besides having a fruitful cultural exchange with Twitter co-founder Evan Williams, he also fired off his first tweet.

You can keep up with both Russian President Medvedev’s English Twitter as well as The Whitehouse Twitter.

The Washington Post – Obama discovers ‘Twitters’ …

Of course each word from the White House is monitored whether by mouth or by web and this Twitter exchange was no exception with the pundits piling on the gaffe. Mixing Twitter and Hooters to get HootSuite? Well, not exactly but we encourage all politicos to use the tool no matter their command of the lexicon.

Twitters? This sounded like either a nervous condition or a cross between Twitter and Hooters. Actually, there already is a cross between Twitter and Hooters: It’s called HootSuite — from which Sharron Angle, the tea party celebrity hoping to dethrone Harry Reid in Nevada, tweeted this on Thursday: “We have now passed Harry Reid in number of Facebook friends on our “sharronforsenate” page! Let’s keep this growing!”

Who says great political oratory is dead?

Confused? This video shows the usually loquacious President Obama fumbling name of the almost-ubigitous micro-update tool for the amusement of geekerati everywhere:

BIV Business Today – Ryan Holmes Profile

Speaking of Presidents, The HootSuite CEO was profiled in Business in Vancouver newspaper in an interesting article about HootSuite’s origins and direction.

Curt Cherewayko writes: The success of Invoke and other ventures on Holmes’ entrepreneurial scoresheet suggests that HootSuite will be another innovative online revenue generator to emerge from the funky work-play space in Gastown that Holmes and the Invoke-HootSuite team call headquarters. {snip}

The company is attaching a “freemium” model to the service in July, which means that users will be still be able to use HootSuite freely but will have to pay for additional bronze, silver and gold standard services offered within it.

“HootSuite has big potential in terms of the amount of traffic it’s pushing,” said Holmes from an Invoke boardroom down the hall from the head office he shares with his dog.

He explained that HootSuite, which manages one million social media accounts for about 400,000 unique users, will try to monetize the 3% to 5% of accounts that are most active.

Those accounts are generally owned by large brands from the media and retail space including Conde Nast, AOL, Banana Republic and Dell.

They use HootSuite to dig up analytics about, and to monitor and add to, the ...

How to wear multiple hats in Twitter? - Story From: Go Social

Have you ever tried an acting career in your life? Let me warn you if you are trying to. One of the fundamentals to being a good actor is if you can perform different kinds of roles with sincerity and accuracy. The moment you slip on that, you are done. To illustrate look at Daniel Day Lewis(one of my favorite), he is wonderful in each of his films and does it with complete honestly and accuracy. Marketing at Twitter is also similar to that, you have to learn to wear multiple hats?

Source : flickr

But what does wearing a different hat got to do with Twitter Marketing? Everything and Nothing. Twitter has more than 100 million users. You cannot expect them to be all same. Your goal is to reach out to different people and engage with them in conversation or discussion. If you fail to understand the sentiment of the discussion, it means you have failed to engage. So how do you recognize them?

First of all it is essential to understand what kind of issues people taking in Twitter. That means tuning up your ears  to listen. But you cannot listen everything by tuning hence you tune to different channels and go through them one by one. It can be achieved in Twitter by following different lists, saving different search keywords or creating different Twitter account dedicated for each kind of conversation. You might think who would do that, but why wouldn’t you do, it increases efficiency and creates less clutter in your network.

Second, you need to follow these different conversations daily and try to engage with them. There could be more than 4/5 groups that you follow. This is what I mean by wearing different hats. The moment you enter into the Internet, you are either among your friends in facebook, among professionals in linkedin, among critics in newspapers or as a brand among your followers. You have to mange all at once and its difficult handling so many roles, especially in the Internet when that switch in hat takes places in microsecond anytime and anywhere.

How to achieve it efficiently?

Source : flickr

Don’t worry. That is exactly why we at buzzom spend hours researching and thinking about. How to simplify things for netizens and improve the experience. We learn from our own experience and listen a lot to the people and our users.

In buzzom, we have addressed this problem through different way and we are still working to improve those ways. One of the most important thing that we have done is included multiple account from multiple networking channels (Currently we have facebook and twitter. More is on the way) at one place. Buzzom handles them efficiently, you can add more than one account and view them with ease.

Next is view groups and saved searches. These are made simple in Buzzom by clearly showing you your lists of groups or Twitter_Lists and saved searches just in your view of scope.

Buzzom puts your content at the center of your screen to allows you to fully experience them. Instead of having multiple groups showing at once, we believe it is better to give each one a complete space in the screen.

More than just Multiple account

Wearing multiple hats could be tiring and difficult. Moreover it could be frustrating if you need to deal with spam everyday. That is why Buzzom has a magic button which lets you hide the application, source, hastags or the user itself from your stream if they are annoying you. Latter you can unhide them easily by going though setting.

Now wearing multiple hats could never be so easy. But always remember, it takes patience and hardwork to succeed in Twitter Marketing and you need to start intelligently and thoughtfully. Best of luck and let me know if there is any queries about buzzom will gladly reply to them.
