Free iPad Version

Echofon Pro has been a universal app (available on iPhone and iPad) for a while now. Today, users of the free version of Echofon can also enjoy using Echofon on their iPad!

User Streams on iPad

Users of Echofon for Mac have been enjoying user streams. Now this great feature is available on Echofon for iPad. Just connect to a WiFi network and the tweets start streaming. New tweets will show up instantly, no need to reload.

Timeline Photo and Video Preview

Echofon on your iPhone now has photo and video previews in the timeline. This makes it even easier to see which tweets have media attached, and access it in one tap.

We've added a mute feature which lets you squelch users, clients or hashtags that you'd rather not see in your timeline. Just go to Menu > Account Options > Mute and add as many filters as you like.

Instant Push Notifications and Social Event Notifications

Push notifications were previously limited to mentions, replies and direct messages. Over the next couple weeks, all Echofon users will start to receive instant push notifications for all direct messages, mentions, replies, favorites and followings.

I am excited to tell you that we have been acquired by Postup, an Idealab company.

Postup plans to keep Echofon team and products intact, and we are working hard on improving the family of Echofon products. New iPhone version should be out in weeks, and you'll see amazing new features on Echofon for Firefox that will be available in beta sometime later this month.

Echofon started as my personal project three years ago and I never imagined it would become so popular, being used by millions of people. I would like to thank you all for your support that enabled our growth, and hope we can keep providing clean and simple user experience.

French and Italian Owls Hatched ~ HootSuite Translation Update - Story From: HootSuite blog - Social Media Dashboard

Mais oui, nos amis, c’est vrais. The French Owl is here, and the Italian Owl is flying too! La dolce vita.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce the release of the first two crowd-sourced international owls. Thanks to the Translation Project that has been in the works for a few months now, HootSuite web is now available in French and Italian. It’s not “perfect” but you can help the new versions improve with your linguistic skills.

From Morocco to Montreal — and the official language of HootSuite’s homeland — French has always been a front-runner in the translation efforts of HootSuite fans. In its turn, Italian for HootSuite came up unexpectedly fast and finished strong. Now Owls up and down the “boot” can hoot in their lovely language (now if only we could turn this into a trip to Positano…).

Grazie, Merci

We’re over the moon that HootSuite enthusiasts around the whole world have so enthusiastically contributed to the Translation project. We’d like to thank every translator who participated to help made this happen. In the short while since released, over 30,000 words were translated from English to French and Italian — that’s a whole lot of hoots.

We can’t help but wonder how all this could ever have happened without our incredible language coordinators Olivier Devriese (French) and Michele Catalano (Italian) who lovingly reviewed and submitted hundreds of strings in just a short time. And they weren’t alone — here are some of the other contributors that have helped bring this to life:

Top 3 French Translators

  1. @odevriese — Olivier Devriese is our awesome language coordinator, who not only checked hundreds of strings but contributed thousands of words himself. From his own words, “After having translated many strings, I noticed that there were very few participants to do the [coordinator's] job. That’s why I decided to become a coordinator. I am persevering ;-).” He also says, “I hope that the French version will create a French-speaking community for HootSuite,” and we hope so too!
  2. @iPhoneaddictfr — Cédric Calisti, the author of iPhoneAddict.fr, writes about iPhones and other Apple products and uses HootSuite to manage his social media accounts.
  3. @bchamontin — Benoit Chamontin is a communication consultant (and a HootSuite fan).

Top 3 Italian Translators

  1. @marcotrulla — Marco Trulla, Owl enthusiast.
  2. @LeoPatrizi — Leonardo Patrizi is a passionate photographer. Check out his pictures on Flickr.
  3. @ps3udolus — Michele Catalano is our great language coordinator who’s been passionate about the Translation Project from day one: “Before now many users who had difficulty with English were inhibited using the application. Now with locations in several languages as the Italian one, the spread of HootSuite will rise and many others can use the potential of this fantastic application,” he says.

Internation-owls

So what’s next? Now with HootSuite now available in 4 languages, it won’t be long until the next localizations round goes live.

Right now, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese look promising on the leaderboard, but there are other translators close on their heels. The Dutch and German users seem to be getting pretty serious… more and more owls land at HootSuite daily from frankwatching.com site and other supportive posts.

Take a look at the latest leaderboard below:

Owl in the Family

Russian Owly

The HootSuite Translation Project has been a successful example of community crowd-sourcing. We’re grateful to our fans, and it’s been a lot of fun to connect with HootSuite users from around the world.

Inspired by the the amount of support for our community crowd-sourcing, we started a broader international outreach and support community: @HootSuite_Korea, @HootSuite_RU (Russian/Ukrainian) and @HootSuite_ES (Spanish) are set to join the already famous Japanese Owly, keeping HootSuite fans around the world informed, supported and satisfied.

While these languages are yet to be 100% completed, there already are a few fully translated apps, including iPhone and Blackberry. We’re expecting to release these very soon on various mobile owls including a few wildcards (Turkish anyone?).

As the translation project continues, our designers are working hard on creating more custom owls for everyone. So follow @HootWatch and #HootTrans for more news and announcements.

Social Media Profile Ownership ~ Best Practices and Tips - Story From: HootSuite blog - Social Media Dashboard

Social Media Profile Ownership

Account OwnershipMany managers at both growing or established companies struggle to find the time and  resources to manage multiple social media profiles. In many cases, an intern or junior employee is assigned the task of getting social networks set up plus tend to posting the messages on behalf of the organization.

Now imagine that the intern decides to take off to Australia to go backpacking for six months — or worse — leaves under less than ideal circumstances. Now what? How do you regain control of your online profile? Getting access back from social networks like Twitter or Facebook can be a support conundrum taking months to resolve – and by that time it could be too late to repair the damage.

Streamline and Protect

Social network profiles are quickly becoming one of the most important parts of your brand and your internal IP. That’s why HootSuite has created “Teams” allowing one account owner to assign tasks and various levels of access while protecting passwords and control.

So… What is Account Ownership?

Lets face it, when you’re dealing with people mistakes can happen. But with HootSuite you retain ultimate control of your account so that if it is compromised you can act quickly, removing users and deleting posts to minimize damage.

If you “own” a social profile in HootSuite, it means that you have the final say over all of the administration. As an account owner, you – and you alone – get to decide what happens with your social media accounts, including who gets to help manage them, and what level of access each team member is granted.

hootsuite-add-delete-team-member

How to Add or Delete a Team Member

Because HootSuite is built as a collaborative social media dashboard, both Pro and Enterprise plans have the option to both add and remove team members, as well as maintain control over what level of access team members have. This means you can assemble a team to write status updates on behalf of your organization without revealing any account passwords. Inversely, account ownership also means you can revoke social media account access to a team member when they move on or change roles.

For most agencies or big businesses, it is necessary to have a number of contributors to your accounts. For example: junior employees monitor comments and mentions, marketers publish messages, contractors measure analytics, project managers delegate tasks and contribute messaging…  and so on.

Indeed, all of these people need access, but not necessarily the same level of permission. As an account owner, you can control who has access to what.

Team Levels

With the HootSuite Pro and Enterprise plans, each team has three levels of users:

Account owner

A social media profile can only have one owner. This class of user has ultimate administrative privileges, including transferring ownership when/if needed. An account owner can invite team members as well as revoke access to anybody. The account owner also decides what level of access team members have – as either advanced or basic members.

Advanced team member

A social media account can have multiple advanced team members. These team members have nearly full access to the management of the account, including some administrative privileges. Advanced team members can invite other team members, or revoke access. They cannot, however, revoke an account owner’s access to a social media account, nor can they transfer ownership or change passwords. The advantage of the Advanced team member is that it allows others to manage your day-to-day social network needs without having total control over the accounts.

Basic team member

A social media account can also have multiple basic team members. This class of user simply has the ability to monitor social media streams and submit status updates. They have no administrative privileges nor can they invite other team members to social profile, revoke access, nor transfer ownership. This is perfect for outside contractors, interns, or team members that only need to post to one of your networks – but not all.

Account Management Best Practices

Account ownership is an important role, so to help you achieve the best management of your social media networks, we’ve put together these guidelines to keep you on track:

Have you ever found yourself wondering where that taco truck you went to yesterday is parked today? Or had a nightmare that you forgot to make a dessert for your holiday dinner party and woke up frantically trying to decide what to cook? Before they even emerge, these questions and fears can be quelled by following the right sources on Twitter.

Since Thanksgiving is coming up and food is top-of-mind for many, we're highlighting some of the discoveries that will help satisfy your tastebuds and get your kitchen wafting with aroma.

A Lifeline:
Direct any cooking question to @foodpickle and their community will answer it before you can say "preheat your oven to 350".

Inspiration:
Famous chefs like @markbittman, @davidlebovitz, @michaelpollan and @tylerflorence tweet about life inside the kitchen, and you can almost smell the food cooking in kitchens around the world through accounts like @wednesdaychef, @chefgui and @vindee. Get 140 character recipes from @cookbook, or follow outlets like @latimesfood, @saveurmag, @slashfood, @FoodNetwork, and @fandw for bite-sized tweets of foodie news and info.

Eating local:
Do a search for local sources in your area to find accounts like @eatersf and @SFoodie, which share info before anyone else about restaurant openings and other news. Check to see if your local farmers market has an account (if they don't, tell them how it's done!). Many markets tweet what's fresh off the farms each week so you can plan your meals accordingly.

On the move:
Keep up with your favorite food trucks on Twitter. @mobilecravings has created separate lists of carts in cities around the U.S. that you can follow. If you've got a craving, try sending one of them a Tweet to see if they can come your way–you never know, the cupcake lady could be heading towards a street near you!

For fun:
@tiwyf (this is why you're fat) tweets about ridiculously unhealthy foods like the Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwich.

Talking ’bout Tablets

Mashable – HootSuite Releases iPad App for Social Media Management

HootSuite for iPad looks to be the perfect companion application for existing business users of the service who wish to manage their presence on a larger mobile screen. The multipurpose nature of the application might also help attract new users.

HootSuite for iPad

The Next Web – HootSuite for iPad is here!

You’ll notice that HootSuite for iPad looks a lot like HootSuite for iPhone … it should it was made that way. I’ve had the chance to chat with Richerd on how he made the app and it was all about making good use of the larger screen size.

And speed. — Richerd noted that other apps for Twitter on the iPad were a little slow, so he made speed a priority in the app. — Fast? Skimming across columns is essentially instant.

But! A new Twitter app for iPad saw the light of day yesterday: HootSuite for iPad. And it rocks! It looks and feels great. And best of all: it’s free!

People that are familiar already with HootSuite on the web will be right at home in the app. You’ll instantly recognize the multi-column support, which gives me the much-needed overview of important tweets as a Twitter power user.

Mac Stories – HootSuite Official iPad App Now Available

HootSuite for iPad features all the options and functionalities iPhone users have been able to enjoy for almost a year now, but it sports a native interface for the tablet that takes advantage of the larger screen to display multiple “columns” at once, so you can keep track of your Twitter messages and mentions without having to switch between different views, for example.

TechKnots – Hootsuite for iPad arrives iPad

Hootsuite has strengthened their mobile application offerings with the release of their iPad application today.

Having almost the same features as Hootsuite for iPhone, i.e. multiple social networks and profiles, Scheduling messages, On-Board Stats etc, this application is completely free and has been specially designed by keeping the iPad interface in mind so that you can easily manage campaigns and monitor social networks from anywhere.
